The term "dependent adult" does not just refer to seniors. It includes anyone over 18 years of age who depends on assistance from another. Dependent adult abuse is not easy to recognize and is far less likely to be reported than child abuse.

Neglect, denial of needed care, financial exploitation, cursing, threats or sexual offenses are all forms of abuse. Abuse can happen anywhere, .. at home, in medical or living facilities and in the community. Dependent adults are at the mercy of caregivers, family members or even by themselves through self-neglect.
